The Borneo rainforest is one of the oldest and most diverse rainforest in the world and they are burning right now. They are purposely burning the rainforest for greed. Trees burned down, animals become homeless, people got sick from the toxic smoke from wildfires, all because of rich people's insatiable greed for wealth.
The wildfire happening in Kalimantan, a part of Borneo Island, is not only caused by the El Niño. If that is the reason, then why isn't Sarawak, Sabah or Brunei burning too? We all know their government is purposely burning down their forest for palm oil plantations and mining.
Is wealth all that matters in their eyes? How can you base your actions on money and profIts when the state of our wildlife is deteriorating by the seconds. We are losing thousands of endemic species in our forests. BIG FUCKING DEAL!
The situation also poses threat to human's health. The haze is so thick in Kalimantan with Air Pollution Index of 191 in Pontianak, the capital city of Kalimantan. The concentration of PM2.5 fine particulate matter there reached 112 micrograms per cubic metre, which is 22.4 times higher than the World Health Organization(WHO)'s recommended guideline according to IQAir data. Wearing the regular surgical mask isn't enough, the people of Kalimantan has to wear N95, KN95 or KF94 masks.
The haze has gone beyond border as the southerly winds has pushed the wildfire smoke to Sarawak. The cities that are affected the most are Kuching, Serian and Sri Aman. 591 schools are closed as of now.
The red dots are the wildfire hotspots spanning all over the province of Kalimantan, that is almost the whole island. What are the president of Indonesia doing about this?
When the Indonesia's Minister of Environment, Jumhur Hidayat, are asked about the smoke from Kalimantan's fire entering Sarawak, he merely said, "Well, coincidentally the wind were blowing that way at that time..." To me, that is just unprofessional for a minister.
The people should not suffer just so these rich people can fill their own pockets. An immediate action must be taken to protect our wildlife and our people.
Please pray for borneo island, pray for kalimantan and pray for indonesia.

This is extremely devastating. And it's also happening in different parts of the world. South America is suffering with fires created by greedy millionaires as well. The fact that the consequences don't even stop at borders makes it so very frustrating. I mean, wildlife, people's health and entire communities end up paying the price for decisions made for profit of few

Deleteas an indonesian, and simply as a human being, i feel deeply saddened by what has happened. i’m angry, disappointed and honestly, i don’t understand how people can become this greedy. i used to think the worst thing they could do was make the people suffer. but i was wrong. it’s not only the people who are suffering now. animals are losing their homes. plants and forests are being destroyed. nature itself is paying the price for human greed. i have never felt this much hatred toward something before. not because i want to hate, but because it hurts to watch something that should be protected being destroyed by the very people who are supposed to protect it.
