Issue 01 - A Day To Celebrate You and Your Girlfriends

1st of August. Girls are waiting for their flowers and a cute little appreciation post on social media from their partner. Some get it while some don't. To those who get it, we're happy you are loved. To those who don't, it's okay; it doesn't mean you're not loved. We can all agree that social media has done irreversible damage to how we base our self-worth on how much our partners are willing to do for us. 

Let's start treating and loving ourselves the way we want to be treated and loved. Make this the year of loving yourself so much you won't see a necessity for romantic love. 

So....no flowers? no boyfriend? no romantic dinner for two? Nothing's wrong with that. Let's put men aside; here are 4 things you can do to celebrate yourself and your girlfriends on National Girlfriend's Day.

1. Watch Chick Flicks

Watching movies together with the girls while you guys share popcorn and talk about them is the ultimate hack for reminding yourself that platonic love is just as fulfilling as romantic love. Also, it's a time well spent with the girlies since you guys share the same opinions and views with each other so you'll feel seen. Or maybe they will have completely different views from yours, and that just opens up your mind more about a certain topic. Either way it's a win-win!

2. Bake A Delicious Cake

Do the blind-deaf-mute challenge with your girlies; one wears a blindfold, another wears a tape over their mouth and the other uses a noise-cancelling headphone. It's a fun twist to what would otherwise be a boring cake-baking session. You'll find out how well your friendship's teamwork is when one of your senses is taken from you. Will it end in success or chaos? That's for you to decide! ;) 

3. Sing at Karaoke

The recipe for the perfect karaoke playlist goes like this: 

Love by Keyshia Cole, Since U Been Gone by Kelly Clarkson, Almost Is Never Enough by Ariana Grande and The Climb by Miley Cyrus for starters. Sing like you just went through a divorce and lost the custody to your child.

Followed by some malay/indo galau songs; Merindukanmu by D'MASIV, the classic Sial by Mahalini, Bagaimana Kalau Aku Tidak Baik-Baik Saja by Judika and sneak one korean song Eyes, Nose, Lips by Taeyang. 

Bring the hype back by singing some upbeat KPOP such as BANG BANG BANG by Big Bang, The Boys by Girl's Generation, OMG by NewJeans and Put Your Hands Up by 2PM. It'll be EXTRA EXTRA FUN if you guys remember the choreo.

Now there are only 5 minutes left on the karaoke machine; what is the perfect song choice? Finish with a BANG with electro pop like Boom Boom Pow by Black Eyed Peas. Make sure you step out of the room with your adrenaline still pumping and your voice slightly strained. 

4. Make A Flower Bouquet For Each Other

What's a celebration without flowers? Make your celebration more whimsical by arranging a flower bouquet for each other. It's cheaper and way more special. 

What you'll need:

A pretty vase of your choice filled with 3/4 water and add 2 teaspoon of sugar & 2 teaspoon of vinegar. This is to make your flowers last longer. The science behind it is, both of these imitate the natural environment of flowers with sugar acting as food and vinegar keeps water acidic for better hydration.

The basic bouquet is made of three components: 

- Focal flowers like Roses, Tulips or Lilies. 

- Filler flowers like Carnations or Baby's Breath. 

- Greenery like Eucalyptus or Bird's Nest Fern.

Mix and match to your heart's liking! Or to what you think your friends would like.

The bond between you and your girlfriends is something really special that you can't replicate elsewhere. Celebrate this National Girlfriend's Day with the women who know your secrets, share your clothes and never turn away from you when you're going through hardships.
